Press release 29 June 2018
Überlingen – The TOP 100 awards for Germany’s most innovative SMEs have been selected for the 25th time and, this year, JA-Gastechnology GmbH is among the innovation leaders. The results were determined by an analysis performed by TOP 100’s scientific director, Professor Nikolaus Franke. The Burgwedel-based company will be honoured by the competition’s mentor, Ranga Yogeshwar, together with Franke and compamedia, at the awards ceremony in Ludwigsburg on 29 June 2018 as part of the fifth German SME Summit. This is the third time that JA-Gastechnology has joined this elite group, achieving third place in the category for companies with 51 to 200 employees. The company, which has 62 employees, particularly impressed the independent panel of judges in the ‘Successful Innovations’ and ‘Outward Looking/Open Innovation’ categories.
This year marks the third TOP 100 win for JA-Gastechnology GmbH, and is the first time it has made the leap onto the winner’s podium, securing third place in its size class. JA-Gastechnology is a family-owned company that develops reliable exhaust gas measuring systems for the automotive industry. Since its foundation in 1989, the company has made a name for itself as a leading supplier of calibration and supply systems, and is the top company in its sector in Germany.
“We expect our field of activity to change significantly over the next few years,” remarked CEO Jens Asmuth. This is no surprise, as all vehicle manufacturers are urgently searching for alternative drive technologies in the wake of the recent emissions crisis. However, this is a trend that this top innovator from Burgwedel saw coming quite some time ago. Indeed, JA-Gastechnology has been resolutely driving forward innovations in hydrogen and fuel cell technology for several years. The most recent example: a design for a high-pressure hydrogen test rig enabling a fuel-cell vehicle’s refuelling process to be simulated across its entire life cycle. The company worked closely with one of its customers to bring the project to fruition – an approach that has proved to be a recipe for success, and has been replicated by this TOP 100 winner on many other projects where customers have been involved at an early point in the development phase.
The TOP 100 competition
Since 1993, compamedia has been awarding the TOP 100 seal of approval to SMEs with a particular ability to innovate and above-average success rates for innovations. Professor Nikolaus Franke has coordinated the project since 2002, and is the founder and director of the Institute for Entrepreneurship and Innovation at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. The TOP 100 is mentored by science journalist Ranga Yogeshwar and organised in partnership with the Fraunhofer Society for the Promotion of Applied Research and the German Association for Small and Medium-Sized Businesses (BVMW). Media support for the company benchmarking competition is provided by manager magazin, Impulse, and W&V. Further information is available at www.top100-germany.com.
